Junior defender earns her first conference accolade
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer junior defender Sydney Parker earned BIG EAST Honor Roll recognition as announced by the league on Monday. Parker delivered the game-winning goal in the Blue Demons season-opening 2-1 win over Valparaiso on Monday, Feb. 22.
Parker, a Winnetka, Ill. native, scored her first collegiate goal in the final minute of regulation to lift the Blue Demons past Valpo after the Brown and Gold notched a late goal on a penalty kick that tied the game at one. Parker helped anchor the DePaul back line all afternoon, holding Valpo to zero shots on goal until Valpo drew the foul in the box that led to the penalty kick with just four minutes remaining.
Parker and the rest of the Blue Demon attack pressed forward during the final minutes and the Blue Demons were able to break through when Parker tucked a shot past the Valpo keeper with less than 30 seconds remaining.
Parker's recognition on the BIG EAST Honor Roll is her first conference accolade of her career. Parker started all 19 matches as a freshman in 2018 and made 18 starts on DePaul's back line in 2019.
