Men's Track and Field Remains in Second Place at C-USA Championships

TAMPA, Fla. - The second day of the 2001 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships saw the DePaul men's team remain in second while the women's team finished the day in ninth place. On the men's side, first-place Charlotte leads with 40 points while the Blue Demons have totaled 29. Heading into the final day, the women's squad has tallied 16 points with Houston in first with 54 points.
Women's Championships - Top finishers for the women's team on Friday were Megan Greeley and Erin Moffett. Greeley's throw of 44.90m (147'04") placed her second in the javelin while Moffet was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:13.80. Katie Sullivan tied for ninth in the high jump with a DePaul-record height of 1.59m (5'02.5").
Susan Stoffel placed 12th in the discus and Lynsey Psimas and Jessica Karlin were 13th and 14th, respectively in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
In preliminary heats for the Blue Demons, Diana Runnels and Leah Rygh qualified for Saturday's finals. Runnels ran a 55.84 in the 400-meter dash and Rygh followed by qualifying in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.79. Trina Knight just missed qualifying in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.00.
Men's Championships - In the closet finish of the day, DePaul's Frank Guzman missed winning the shot put title by one-half inch to Marquette's Greg Uher. Uher won the event with a distance of 17.18m (56'04.5") followed by Guzman at 17.17m (56'04"). Jarrod Jahnke placed 13th in the event for the Blue Demons with a throw of 13.39m (43'11.25").
Matt Plano finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:21.92 while Adam Crothers was 11th in the long jump with a distance of 6.80m (22'03.75").
In qualifying events, the Blue Demons placed four athletes in the finals. Larry Inanga ran a 49.18 in the 400-meter dash while Kai Murray registered a time of 1:54.92 in the 800-meter run. Others inclueded Luis Samayoa in the 1500-meter run at 4:01.09 and Siddiqu Muhammad in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.97. In that event, Aaron Cherrington just missed qualifying with a time of 55.44.
