Carey Ryan Aims For Hammer Throw Title At NCAA Championships

DePaul senior thrower Carey Ryan will participate in the hammer throw competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. PST. The four-day meet on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene crowns the top track and field athletes in the country.
Ryan's longest throw of 226'4" at the Lee Calhoun Invitational in April is ranked sixth in the country. He also won the Conference USA Hammer Throw title with a C-USA Championship record of 225'.
The favorite in the hammer event is Georgia senior Andras Haklits from Croatia who leads the nation and is ranked 20th in the world with a best throw of 254'9". Rounding out the top five entering the event are Utah State senior James Parker (235'9"), UTEP junior Janne Vartia from Finland (232'6"), USC senior Norbert Horvath from Hungary (228'5") and Texas freshman Dylan Armstrong from Canada (227'4").
