One of the top local players in program history, Tom Kleinschmidt was the first player in program history to earn conference Player of the Year honors, doing so in 1995 with the Great Midwest Conference. He had an accomplished career that featured him becoming the first player in program history to finish his career with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, 100 steals and 100 three-pointers.

Kleinschmidt still remains one of the top players in DePaul's record book ranking in the top-10 in career scoring (1,837), field goals made (632), free throws made (453) and assists (386). He led the Blue Demons to a 1992 NCAA Tournament appearance and two NIT berths while earning honorable mention All-American honors in 1995. Kleinschmidt scored at least 30 points in eight games, including a career-high 37 against UAB as a junior.

Klenischmidt remains active in the Chicago basketball community, currently serving as the head coach at DePaul College Prep where he led the team to its first Illinois basketball state title in school history in 2023 and has won three-consecutive across three different divisions from 2023-25.
