Dan Candiano

From 1966-1970, Dan Candiano was a member of Men’s Track. In 1970, Candiano ran the mile in a time of 4:09, beating former mile world record holder, Dave Wondell, at the Kentucky Relays. While training at DePaul, Candiano would run 80-100 miles per week in any weather condition. He was inducted into the City of Hammond (Indiana) Hall of Fame in 2002.Â
Candiano held his record for the mile for 35 years. Post graduation, he served as the Head Track Coach at Hammond High School (1971-77) where he coached the Olympic Team qualifier, Rudy Chapa.
