The greatest sprinter in DePaul history and its only NCAA Champion, Dave Dopek was inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. Dopek won the 1995 NCAA Indoor Championship in the 200m in addition to a second-place finish at the 1995 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The two-time All-American was the 1995 Great Midwest Conference Athlete of the Year and compiled 10 Conference titles from 1992-95. Dopek still holds the DePaul indoor and outdoor 200m event record in addition to the 400m indoor record.

Dopek won a gold medal in the 200-meter dash and competed on the winning 4x100-meter relay team at the 1995 United States Olympic Festival. On the international level, Dopek helped the USA 4x100-meter relay team take the gold medal at the 1995 World University Games in Fukuoka, Japan. Dopek also on a silver medal in the 200m at the event. A year later, he competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Atlanta.

Dopek currently serves as the DePaul Track & Field head coach, entering his 13th season in 2023. At the helm of the program he has coached over 100 BIG EAST Conference Champions, earned two team BIG EAST titles and broke over 30 DePaul school records.
