Dennis Freund was a standout guard for the DePaul Blue Demons men’s basketball team from 1959 to 1964, contributing consistently to the program during a competitive era under legendary coach Ray Meyer. According to DePaul and college basketball statistical records, Freund was a key member of the 1961–62 and 1962–63 squads, providing steady scoring and backcourt play. During the 1962–63 season, he averaged approximately 8.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game as a junior, helping DePaul compete in the independent ranks and post strong team performances.
In recognition of his on-court achievements, leadership, and role in advancing DePaul basketball, Dennis Freund was inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997. His career reflects the Blue Demon tradition of tough defense, unselfish play, and commitment to team success.
