Doug Bruno played for the Blue Demons Basketball team in 1969–1973 under Coach Ray Meyer. During his time playing at DePaul he earned a letter three years and a starting two seasons.
Bruno was named Head Coach of the DePaul women's basketball program in 1976. And his first season the team had an 11-10 record and during his second season with the team, a 16-6 record, the most wins in the program's history at the time.
Doug Bruno left the blue demons in 1978, but made a permanent return in 1988. During his first season back the team earned a 23-10 record and tied for first place in the North Star conference and qualified for post season play.Â
During his 39 seasons of coaching at DePaul, Coach Bruno has earned 25 NCAA Tournament berths and 19 conference titles. His win total ranks 18th all-time in Division I women’s basketball history. He is a five-time conference Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022.
