Gene Sullivan
- Induction:
- 1996
Gene Sullivan was a visionary leader in collegiate athletics whose influence at DePaul University extended far beyond his official title. Sullivan served as DePaul’s Athletic Director from 1975 to 1978, a period of unprecedented growth for the Blue Demon athletic department. During his tenure he expanded opportunities for student-athletes, increased scholarship support, and pioneered media exposure for DePaul basketball by helping launch televised broadcasts of games, which contributed to the program’s rising national profile. In recognition of his impact on DePaul athletics, he was inducted into the DePaul Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Sullivan remained connected to the program as a radio analyst for DePaul basketball and left a lasting legacy that was honored when the university’s Athletic Center was renamed the Sullivan Athletic Center in his memory. Sullivan also enjoyed a distinguished coaching career at Loyola University Chicago and later served in community leadership roles before his passing in 2002.
