Jean Nordberg

Jean Nordberg was a physical education professor at DePaul University whose leadership helped elevate women’s athletics from club-level activities to organized intercollegiate competition in the 1960s and 1970s. She was instrumental in transforming the Women’s Athletics Association into a foundation for modern women’s varsity sports at DePaul, advocating for expanded opportunities in basketball, softball, volleyball, and gymnastics. Her work helped shape the early structure and growth of women’s athletics at the university, building the framework for future success. In appreciation of her pioneering contributions and lasting impact on DePaul athletics, Nordberg was inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994.
