Joe Pecoraro swam for DePaul University from 1950 to 1952, earning a place in the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 1983. Beyond his time as a college athlete, he became a legendary lifeguard in Chicago, serving with the Chicago Park District for over five decades and overseeing its beaches and pools. Known for his dedication to water safety, Pecoraro played a major role in standardizing open-water lifesaving procedures at a national level. His enduring legacy includes not only his athletic achievements, but also his lifelong commitment to protecting and training others in aquatic environments.
