John Cleland

John Cleland, a 1963 DePaul University graduate, is a distinguished figure in Chicago golf. He was captain of DePaul’s golf team, won the Cook County Amateur in 1962, and went on to enjoy a successful professional career. Cleland returned to Chicago in 1976 to serve as head professional at Exmoor Country Club, where he became known for his straightforward teaching philosophy that focused on impact and ball flight. He also guided DePaul’s golf program as head coach, helping shape future players and instructors. In recognition of his lasting influence on the sport and the university, Cleland was inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984.
