John J. Sullivan graduated from DePaul College of Law in 1936 and was a standout Blue Demon football player during his time at the university. After graduation he served in World War II, then built a distinguished legal career in Chicago, including serving as president of the Chicago Bar Association. As president of the DePaul Alumni Association, Sullivan announced the board’s decision to finance an on-campus site for DePaul’s athletic, cultural and social programs and to establish a permanent home for the physical education department, a project that shaped campus athletics for generations. In recognition of his athletic achievements and long record of service to DePaul, Sullivan was inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 1978.
