Tennis player and south-side local, Ray Cahnman, graduated from DePaul in 1967 with record accomplishments for the Blue Demons. Cahnman played at the 3rd and 4th singles position in the 1966-67 season. By the end of his career, he also obtained a .880 winning percentage – the highest out of any athlete from 1959 to 1967. With Cahnman on the team, the Blue Demons finished the 1967 season with a 22-3 record and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship. That same year the Blue Demons claimed the Chicagoland Championship.Â
Post-graduation, Cahnman ranked in the top five of men’s open singles division by the Chicago District Tennis Association from 1969-75. Cahnman ranked 1st in 1975 and, six years later, was the top-ranked player in the 35-and-over division.Â
