Ron Sobieszczyk played for DePaul men's basketball from 1953-56 where he appeared in 67 games, tallying 1,222 points and 696 rebounds in his career. Sobieszczyk averaged 22.5 points as a senior in 1955-56, ranking top-30 in the nation in scoring, while captaining the team to the 1956 NCAA Touranment. His 22.5 point average still ranks among the top-10 all time at DePaul for single-season scoring average. In 1955-56, Sobieszczyk also tallied 212 made free throws which remains the second most all-time at DePaul. Sobieszczyk remains among the top-10 in numerous career categories at DePaul including scoring average and free throw mades.Â
Following his collegiate career, Sobieszczyk participated with the College All-Stars team that toured the Harlem Globetrotters. He was then drafted sixth overall in the 1956 NBA Draft by the Fort Wayne Pistons. Sobieszczyk played four seasons in the NBA with the New York Knicks and Minneapolis Lakers where hge scored 1,691 points before suffering an injury.Â
