Plano, Guzman Take Top Honors At Kent State

KENT, OHIO (Feb. 5) - At the Golden Flash Invitational hosted by Kent State on Feb. 3, the DePaul men's track team had two athletes claim first in their respective events. Matt Plano won the 3,000 meters in 8 minutes 23 seconds and Frank Guzman was the top collegian in the shot put with a toss of 57 feet 7 inches.

Guzman placed third overall at the meet, but both competitors ahead of him were unattached. He bested his nearest collegiate competitor by two feet.

Chris Birchall made it two DePaul runners in the top three in the 3,000 by taking home third in 8:28.39.

Despite finishing outside of the top eight, Siddiqu Mohammed produced his best 400m time of the season crossing the line in 49.55; he was eleventh. The time is the third best in Conference USA this season.

All told, 13 athletes produced season best marks at the meet. Most notably, Kai Murray produced the fastest 800m time in C-USA this year with a 1:54.22. Luis Samayoa shaved six seconds off his season best in the mile clocking a 4:13.10.

DePaul travels to Ames, Iowa this weekend for the Iowa State Classic Feb. 9-10.
