Smith, Gardner Combine For Three Fourth-Place Finishes

KENT, OHIO (Feb. 5) - Kim Smith and Montia Gardner produced three fourth-place performances at the Kent State Golden Flash Invitational this past weekend. Smith was fourth in the 60 meter dash and long jump and Gardner claimed hers in the 20-pound weight throw.
Smith closed with a time of 7 seconds 82 hundredths in the 60 and leapt 5.47m (17 feet 11 inches). Meanwhile, Gardner added a heave of 15.19m (49-10).
The oversized 300m track was welcomed by the team as 12 athletes turned in season bests. Diana Runnels and Kristil Nicholas crossed the tape in 25.92 and 26.66 respectively in the 200m, while Erin Moffett completed the fifth best time in Conference USA this season in the 3,000m; she posted a 10:23.07 and earned a fifth place finish at the meet.
Katie Sullivan placed for the fourth consecutive week in the high jump. Se had topped 5-4 in her past three meets but finished a touch below that mark with a 5-1 ¾ jump.
The team's next meet will be in Ames, Iowa when it travels to the Iowa State Classic.
