Ryan Claims Sixth Place In Hammer Throw At NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - DePaul's lone representative at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships put the Blue Demons in a tie for 19th place after four events. Carey Ryan's sixth place finish in the hammer throw on Thursday afternoon gave the Blue Demons three team points. He finished the competition with a distance of 226'06" (69.04m).
Entering the meet, Ryan's longest throw was ranked sixth among all competitors. Things basically stayed the same with Georgia's Andras Haklits winning the hammer event with a distance of 247'08" followed by James Parker of Utah State at 240'07". The pair was ranked first and second throughout the season. Finishing ahead of Ryan in fifth was Dylan Armstrong of Texas at 227'11" (69.48m).
