Cross Country Teams Begin Practice

CHICAGO – With the start of practice this week, DePaul head coach Gordon Thomson announced the captains for the 2004 season. Donnie Warner was chosen as captain for the men’s team while Erin Moffett and Leah Rygh will lead the women’s program.
Warner, a senior, led the men’s program last season and was a second team All-Conference USA honoree. He placed sixth at the league meet in Tampa, Fla. Overall , the team matched their best finish with a fourth-place showing. Moffett and Rygh, also seniors, redshirted last season and are expected to lead the women’s program in 2004. Moffett won the individual C-USA Championship in 2002 and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
Thomson and the Blue Demons begin the season on Sept. 11 at the Indiana State Invitational. Locally, DePaul will be competing at the annual Sean Earl – Lakefront Invitational at Montrose Beach on Oct. 2.
DePaul is the host of the annual Conference USA Championships on Oct. 30. The league meet takes place in Palos Hills, Ill. with each of the 14 C-USA schools being represented. Both the men’s and women’s teams are expected to make a strong push for the C-USA Championship.
