CHICAGO The DePaul men’s tennis team competes this weekend at Northwestern’s Wildcat Invitational. The three-day tournament runs Friday through Sunday at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston, Illinois.
DePaul joins competition from Northwestern, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Western Michigan. The bracket-style tournament consists of two singles flights and one doubles flight. Friday’s action begins at 11:30 a.m., while matches on Saturday and Sunday commence at 8 a.m.
Juniors Jose Moncada and Austin Doerner join sophomore Vanja Grgec in the Flight A singles bracket. Friday’s first round pits Grgec against Western Michigan’s Kazuya Komada at 11:30 a.m., while Doerner faces Minnesota’s Tobias Wernet at 1:30 p.m. and Moncada takes on Northwestern’s Alexey Evstratenkov at 3:30 p.m.
The Flight B singles bracket features five Blue Demons, as sophomore Alasdair Graetz joins freshmen Tim Cadet, Ben Hartman, Bartosz Jozwiak and Adam Williams. All five DePaul players begin competition on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Cadet takes on Wisconsin’s Steven Schechtman, while Hartman faces Bryan Norville of Western Michigan. Graetz battles Western Michigan’s R.K. Bacalla and Jozwiak competes against Derek Petersen of Minnesota. Williams takes on Western Michigan’s Brad Noel.
Doubles competition opens on Friday at 3:30 p.m. as Cadet and Hartman take on Wisconsin’s duo of Gian Hodgson and Michael Muskievicz. Three more Blue Demon tandems enter the doubles bracket on Friday at 6 p.m. Graetz and Williams compete against Minnesota’s Dino Bilankov and Pierre Dumas, while Doerner and Moncada face Western Michigan’s Michael Calderone and Kevin Hayward. Grgec and Jozwiak take on Alejandro Staub and Norville of Western Michigan.
The Wildcat Invitational is DePaul’s last tournament before the October 18-22 ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
