Duck and Schaefer Pace Cross Country at Bradley Classic

PEORIA, Ill. Claire Duck finished seventh in the women’s 6K race and Nick Schaefer placed 15th in the men’s 8K trek as the DePaul women’s and men’s cross country teams competed at the Bradley Classic on Friday. The Blue Demons placed 10th in the women’s team standings and 11th in the men’s standings at the Newman Golf Course.
Duck recorded a 6K time of 21:23 as she earned her fourth top-ten finish of the season. The Blue Demon senior has paced DePaul in all five meets this season. Mary Cate Quiett followed in 23rd place with a time of 22:01 and Terah Cheatham finished 56th with a time of 22:47. Stephanie Hughes placed 69th at 23:05, while Reda Josifi closed out DePaul’s top five with an 85th place finish and a time of 23:22.
Schaefer led the men’s squad for the fifth consecutive meet as he finished 15th with an 8K time of 25:20. Jakub Kolacz crossed the line at 25:53 to finish 37th and Luke Rygh followed in 65th place with a time of 26:08. Mike Fry placed 72nd with a personal-best time of 26:23, while Ryan Solomon rounded out the Blue Demons’ top five as he finished 88th with a time of 26:48.
The DePaul women’s team combined for a score of 227 to place 10th out of 17 squads and the Blue Demon men posted a score of 250 to finish 11th out of 15 teams. Missouri swept both team titles with a score of 27 in the men’s standings and a total of 49 in the women’s competition.
Wichita State’s Kellyn Johnson won the women’s race with a time of 20:44, while Dan Hedgecock of Missouri won the men’s race with a time of 24:35.
The Blue Demons return to competition on Saturday, October 27 at the BIG EAST Conference Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
