Men's Tennis Wins Nine Doubles Matches

KALAMAZOO, Mich. The DePaul men’s tennis team went 9-3 in doubles play as the Western Michigan Vredevelt Invitational opened on Friday. The Blue Demons defeated teams from Bradley, Louisville and Michigan State at West Hills Athletic Club.
Junior Jose Moncada and freshman Adam Williams notched a 3-0 record on the day. The Blue Demon duo knocked off James McArthur and Morten Sivertsen of Louisville, 8-6, before they recorded a 9-7 victory over Michigan State’s Tyler Sauerbrey and Scott Rasmussen. Moncada and Williams closed the evening with an 8-4 win over Billy Gardner and John Stratton of Michigan State.
Junior Austin Doerner and sophomore Alasdair Graetz also posted a 3-0 performance in doubles play. They began with an 8-2 win over Evegeny Samoylov and Milos Romic of Bradley and followed with an 8-3 victory over Stratton and Gardner. Doerner and Graetz finished by knocking off Sauerbrey and Rasmussen, 8-4.
Friday’s action also saw sophomore Vanja Grgec and freshman Ben Hartman notch two victories over pairs from Bradley. They posted an 8-4 win over Richard Robertson and Vuk Bolic before they topped Michel Macara and Wilder Sampson, 8-2.
Freshmen Tim Cadet and Bartosz Jozwiak opened the tournament with an 8-2 win over Macara and Sampson.
The Vredevelt Invitational continues on Saturday at 9 a.m. (CST) with two rounds of singles play.
