Duck and Schaefer Lead Cross Country at BIG EAST Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Claire Duck and Nick Schaefer paced the DePaul women’s and men’s cross country teams on Saturday at the BIG EAST Conference Championships. The Blue Demons placed 10th in the women’s standings and 12th in the men’s standings at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park.
Duck led the women’s team for the sixth time this season as she finished 16th overall with a personal-best 6K time of 21:16. Terah Cheatham followed in 60th place with a personal-best time of 22:23 and Stephanie Hughes finished 72nd with a personal-best time of 22:39. Mary Cate Quiett placed 77th at 22:51 and Reda Josifi closed out DePaul’s top five as she finished 88th with a personal-best time of 23:19.
The men’s 8K race saw Schaefer lead the Blue Demons for the sixth time in as many meets. He finished 54th overall with a time of 25:22. Jakub Kolacz came in at 26:08 and placed 74th, while Jeremy Applebaum recorded a personal-best time of 26:23 and finished 86th. Luke Rygh crossed the line 91st with a time of 26:30 and Richard Byrne rounded out DePaul’s top five at 92nd with a time of 26:31.
The DePaul women’s team posted a score of 289, placing ahead of Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Connecticut, USF, St. John’s and Seton Hall. West Virginia won the women’s team title with a score of 77, while Georgetown’s Melissa Grelli took the individual crown with a time of 20:05.
The Blue Demons placed ahead of Seton Hall and USF in the men’s standings with a score of 353. Louisville topped the field with a score of 55 and Bobby Curtis of Villanova won the individual title with a time of 23:08.
DePaul returns to action on Saturday, November 10 at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Peoria, Illinois. The meet begins at 11 a.m. (CST) at the Newman Golf Course.
