Cross Country Launches 2007 Season at UIC Opener

CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams open their 2007 campaign this Saturday at the UIC Opener in Palos Heights, Illinois. The meet, at Horsetail Lake in Palos Park, opens at 10 a.m. with a two-mile women’s race and concludes with a 4.1-mile men’s race.
The Blue Demons join a field of competition that includes squads from UIC, Loyola-Chicago, UW-Milawukee, UW-Green Bay, Chicago State, St. Xavier and Northwestern.
Head coach Pat Savage returns 13 men and three women from his 2006 squads while adding eight newcomers to the women’s team and five to the men’s roster. The senior class on the women’s team is composed of Claire Duck and Maureen Kuhta, while Richard Byrne and Kyle Ferry give senior leadership to the men’s team.
The 2006 UIC Opener saw DePaul place second in the men’s team standings and third among all women’s teams. Current sophomore Terah Cheatham finished eighth in the women’s race with a time of 11:57, while current sophomore Jakub Kolacz tied for 10th in the men’s trek with a time of 21:32.
The UIC Opener is the first of five regular season meets building up to the 2007 BIG EAST Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
