Duck and Schaefer Lead Cross Country at National Catholic Championship

NOTRE DAME, Ind. Claire Duck and Nick Schaefer paced the DePaul women’s and men’s cross country teams on Friday at the National Catholic Championship in Notre Dame, Indiana. Duck finished third in the women’s 5K race and Schaefer took 16th in the men’s five-mile race as the Blue Demons placed fifth in both team standings.
Duck crossed the finish line at 17:47 as she led the DePaul women in a field of 306 individuals. Mary Cate Quiett followed in 12th place with a time of 18:21, while Stephanie Hughes finished 25th at 18:58. Terah Cheatham placed 32nd with a time of 19:06 and Katie Rodgers closed out the Blue Demons’ top-five as she came in 93rd at 19:59.
Schaefer posted a five-mile time of 25:46 as he finished 16th in a field of 266 runners. He was trailed by Jakub Kolacz, who placed 33rd with a time of 26:13. Jeremy Applebaum finished 51st at 26:40, while Ryan Solomon took 59th with a time of 26:54. Rob Morgan wrapped up DePaul’s top-five with a 67th place finish at 27:08.
The DePaul women posted a score of 161 and placed fifth in a field of 37 squads, while the Blue Demon men combined for a score of 213 and finished fifth among 35 teams. Notre Dame swept the team titles, posting a score of 23 in the women’s competition and a total of 29 in the men’s race. Marissa Treece of Notre Dame and Mike Andersen of Dayton won the individual crowns.
The Blue Demons return to competition on Saturday, September 29 at the Greater Louisville Classic. The meet is held at Tom Sawyer Park, site of the 2007 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships.
