Men's Tennis Finishes Milwaukee Classic

ELM GROVE, Wis. The DePaul men’s tennis team picked up three singles wins over Ball State and one doubles victory over BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette as the Milwaukee Tennis Classic came to a close on Sunday. Jose Moncada and Austin Doerner earned doubles runner-up honors following the three-day tournament at the Western Racquet Club.

Doerner and Moncada gave DePaul an 8-6 victory over Marquette’s top duo of Brett Binkley and Mark Rutherford. The Blue Demon pair finished the tournament with two wins and no losses.

DePaul came up short in its other two doubles matches against Marquette. Adam Williams and Alasdair Graetz suffered an 8-6 loss to Pete Van Lieshout and Niko Boulieris, while Ben Hartman and Tim Cadet fell, 8-5, to Graydon Klassen and Dusan Medan.

Moncada opened Sunday with a 6-1, 6-3 singles win over Jarrod Epkey of Ball State in the No. 2 flight. The Blue Demon junior closed out the weekend with a 2-1 record in singles play while earning the Mulcahy Award for sportsmanship.

Vanja Grgec fell to Eduardo Pavia, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8), and Graetz notched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Shaun Bussert.

Doerner and Moncada compete September 29 at the Polo ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Blue Demons return to action next month at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The tournament begins October 21 at the Baseline Tennis Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.
