Cross Country Heads to Louisville

CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Louisville, Kentucky this weekend for the Greater Louisville Classic. The Blue Demons join more than 30 teams in Tom Sawyer Park for a men’s 8K race at 8:30 a.m. (CST) and a women’s 6K race at 9:15 a.m.
DePaul enters a field of competition that includes BIG EAST Conference rivals Louisville and USF in addition to several teams from the SEC, such as Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Mississippi and Vanderbilt.
The Blue Demons have been paced by Claire Duck and Nick Schaefer in every meet so far this season. Duck won the Fordham Invitational with a 5K time of 18:38 and most recently finished third at the National Catholic Championship with a 5K performance of 17:47. Schaefer won the UIC Home Opener with a 4.1-mile time of 20:51 and placed 16th at the National Catholic Championships with a five-mile time of 25:46.
Mary Cate Quiett has followed Duck in every race so far this season and notched a 5K time of 18:21 at the National Catholic Championship. Jakub Kolacz trailed Schaefer at the National Catholic Championship and finished with a five-mile time of 26:13.
Both the men’s and women’s teams have yet to finish outside of the top-five in team standings at any meet this season. The Blue Demons swept the team titles at the UIC Home Opener and both squads placed fifth at the National Catholic Championship. The Fordham Invitational saw the women’s squad place third, while the men’s squad took fourth place.
Tom Sawyer Park is also the site of the 2007 BIG EAST Championships on October 27.
