Doerner and Moncada to Compete at ITA/All-American Championships

CHICAGO Austin Doerner and Jose Moncada represent the DePaul men’s tennis team this weekend at the Ralph Lauren Polo ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Doerner and Moncada join the nation’s top collegiate talent as they enter pre-qualifying singles play on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Moncada begins pre-qualifying play at 9 a.m. (CST) as he faces Gera Boryanchinskiy of Clemson. The winner meets TCU’s Adrian Simon in the second round at 2:30 p.m. Doerner holds a first-round bye and takes on Adrew Stubbs of Wofford in the second round at 12:30 p.m. The 256-player pre-qualifying singles bracket concludes on Sunday with the third and fourth rounds.
The remaining 16 players from the pre-qualifying bracket earn berths in the 128-player qualifying tournament, which runs Monday through Wednesday. The top 16 players from the qualifying tournament then join the 64-player main draw on Thursday. The tournament concludes with championship matches on Sunday, October 7.
Moncada gave the Blue Demons 21 singles victories during the 2006-07 campaign and Doerner posted 19 singles wins. DePaul opened its season last weekend at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, where Moncada went 2-1 in singles and Doerner picked up a win.
