Cross Country Finishes Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Claire Duck and Nick Schaefer paced the DePaul women’s and men’s cross country teams on Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic. The Blue Demons placed 13th in the women’s standings and 19th in the men’s standings at Tom Sawyer Park.
Duck led the DePaul women for the fourth consecutive meet as she finished 17th with a 6K time of 17:54. Mary Cate Quiett followed in 39th with a time of 18:29, while Stephanie Hughes placed 67th at 19:00. Terah Cheatham crossed the finish line at 19:13 to finish 81st and Reda Josifi rounded out the Blue Demons’ top-five finishers with a time of 19:46 at 138th.
Schaefer paced the DePaul men for the fourth time in as many meets as he placed 40th with a personal-best 8K time of 24:57. Jakub Kolacz also gave a personal-best performance as he finished 65th with a time of 25:23. Luke Rygh took 117th with a time of 25:58, while Greg Udzielak placed 164th with a personal-best time of 26:26. Jeremy Applebaum closed out the Blue Demons’ top-five as he finished 177th and posted a time of 26:34.
The DePaul women combined for a score of 317 to place 13th in a field of 28 squads. Kentucky topped the women’s standings with a score of 55, while BIG EAST Conference rival Louisville took second place with a score of 103. BIG EAST rival USF posted a score of 569 to place 21st. Pasca Cheruiyot of Rend Lake College won the women’s 6K race with a time of 17:06.
The Blue Demon men recorded a score of 516 and placed 19th out of 36 teams. Louisville took the team crown with a score of 58 and USF placed 35th with a score of 888. Jacob Korir of Eastern Kentucky won the 8K race with a course-record time of 23:08.
DePaul returns to action on Friday, October 12 at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Illinois. The meet, at Newman Golf Course, gives the Blue Demons a preview of the 2007 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship site.
