CHICAGO Following a successful performance at last week’s UIC Opener, the DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams head to New York this Saturday for the Fordham Invitational. The meet, in the Bronx’s Van Courtland Park, places the Blue Demons in a 5K women’s race at 9:30 a.m. (CST) and an 8K men’s trek at 10 a.m.
DePaul enters a field of competition that features 22 teams in each race, including squads from BIG EAST Conference rival Rutgers and the Northwestern women’s team.
A week after winning the women’s individual title at the UIC Opener, Claire Duck sets to race for the Blue Demons and is joined by Terah Cheatham, Stephanie Hughes, Reda Josifi, Mary Cate Quiett and Katie Rodgers. Nick Schaefer, who led the men’s team last week with a first place finish, enters Saturday’s race along with Jeremy Applebaum, Jakub Kolacz, Glenn Morris, Luke Rygh, Nick Schaefer, Greg Udzielak, Ryan Solomon and Richard Byrne.
The Fordham Invitational marks DePaul's second ever appearance at Van Courtland Park, which was the site of the 2005 BIG EAST Championships.
Saturday also places a select squad of Blue Demons at the North Park Invitational in Chicago’s Foster Forest Preserve. The women’s 5K race features Dana Augustine, Lauren Bales, Shannon Lane and Maureen Kuhta, while Ryan Leyba, Kevin Persaud, Nick Vassil, Kevin Peine, Brian Godar, Rob Morgan and Kyle Ferry represent DePaul in the Men’s 8K race.
