Doubles Domination at the Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The DePaul men’s tennis team walked away from the Louisville Fall Invitaitonal boasting a 9-1 overall doubles record and two doubles flight champion duos. Jose Moncada and Alasdair Graetz won the main doubles draw, while Ben Hartman and Bartosz Jozwiak claimed the Flight C doubles crown. Jozwiak’s success was not limited to doubles play, as he rallied back from a loss on Friday to win the Flight B consolation bracket.
Moncada and Graetz battled through two close matches on their final day of the tournament. After eliminating Santiago Gruter and Stephen Vogl of Indiana, 9-7, they claimed the championship by defeating Will Beck and Patrick Bandy, 9-7. The Blue Demon duo has now won five straight matches, with an overall record of 7-1.
Hartman and Jozwiak began their day by beating Toledo’s Gursher Harika and Wade Ward 9-7. In the Flight C championship round, the sophomore pair went toe-to-toe with Xavier’s Richard Canelas and Marc Pretorius, winning in the tie-breaker, 9-8 (5).
Jozwiak continued his winning streak against Canelas by eliminating him from the Flight B singles consolation semifinals, 6-0, 6-3. With a score of 6-4, 6-4, Jozwiak won the bracket by defeating Sumit-Prakash Gupta of Louisville.
After suffering the only doubles loss of the tournament, Vanja Grgec and Juan Xavier Munoz rallied to win against Michael Engdal and Cory Paluch of South Dakota State, 8-4.
In the lone singles match for DePaul, Alasdair Graetz was edged out by Wright State’s Nick Camilleri, 6-7, 6-4, 10-0.
The Blue Demons return to action this Thursday, when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
