Cross Country Wraps Up the Regular Season

PEORIA, Ill. The DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Bradley Classic today at the Newman Golf Course.  The men, who hold a regional ranking of No. 14, placed second, while the women took sixth.

Jakub Kolacz was DePaul’s top finisher for the first time this season, posting a season-best 8K time of 25:30 to place eighth overall.  Matthew Graham crossed the line just one second behind him, to place 10th.  Placing 19th, Greg Udzielak recorded a time of 25:44, marking a new season-best for the junior.  Rounding out the top-five finishers were Luke Rygh and Rob Morgan.  Rygh placed 22nd with a time of 25:55, while Morgan crossed the finish line in 26:18 for 39th place.

With a team score of 90, the Blue Demons finished ahead of regionally ranked opponents Drake (No. 10) and No. 9 Illinois State.  Winning the title was No. 2 Iowa State.

The women were paced by Mary Cate Quiett, who posted a 6K time of 22:05 for 12th place.  Stephanie Hughes placed 24th in a time of 22:34, while Kelly Pickering finished 30th in a time of 22:43.  Terah Cheatham crossed the line in 47th place with a time of 22:58.  Wrapping up the DePaul top-five was Claire O'Brien, who place 66th in a time of 23:21.

The women placed sixth with a team score of 175.  The Blue Demons notably beat regionally ranked No. 15 Illinois State by 36 points.  Iowa State took the women’s title with a score of 51.

The Bradley Classic concludes DePaul’s regular season.  Next up, the teams travel to Bronx, N.Y. on October 31 for the BIG EAST Conference Championships held at VanCortlandt Park.  This is the second time the Blue Demons have faced the course this season, having previously ran there during the Fordham Fiasco.
