Tennis Looks to Main Singles Draw

COLUMBUS, Ohio The DePaul men’s tennis team continued today at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Qualifying singles matches wrapped up in the morning, followed by first and second rounds of the doubles main draw. Ben Hartman bowed out in the second round of singles action to No. 1 seed Drew Daniel. Daniel, of the University of Michigan, took both sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Jose Moncada and Alasdair Graetz, seeded No. 16, won their first match of the day, eliminating Chris Peek and Jeremy Lander of Indiana with a score of 9-7. In the round of 16, the Blue Demon duo was defeated by JT Torbeck and Ra’ees Ismail of Xavier, 8-5. The loss was only the second of the season for Moncada and Graetz. Austin Doerner and Vanja Grgec defeated No. 15 seed Waylon Chin and Roy Kalmanovich of Illinois, 9-7, before bowing out to Iowa’s Gregory Bierich and Christian Holm, 8-6. Hartman and partner Bartosz Jozwiak were eliminated in round one after loosing to Jose Perdomo and Jorge Rodriguez of Ball State 8-5. The singles main draw begins tomorrow at 7 a.m. (CST) Moncada, who is seeded No. 19, will face Chris Peek of Indiana, while Graetz is faces off against Illinois’ Dennis Nevolo. Doerner, who already claimed one victory against Kalmanovich, looks to repeat success against the Fighting Illini in the single draw.
