Men's Tennis Tops Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. -Â The DePaul men's tennis team warmed up for the BIG EAST Conference Championships on Wednesday with a 7-0 non-conference shutout at Florida Gulf Coast. The Blue Demons won the doubles point before sweeping the Eagles in singles action.
Juniors Austin Doerner and Jose Moncada recorded an 8-4 victory over Brenton Bacon and Edson Lima in the top doubles match, while sophomores Alasdair Graetz and Vanja Grgec defeated Gonzalo Rafael De Villa and Frank Acierno, 8-4, in the No. 2 match. DePaul won the No. 3 doubles match by default.
The top singles match saw Moncada earn his 14th victory of the dual season with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Lima. Doerner topped Bacon, 6-4, 5-2, in the No. 2 singles match, while Grgec notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over De Villa at No. 3. Graetz rolled past Acierno with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the No. 4 match. Ben Hartman improved to 17-2 in spring singles competition when he defeated Erick Sebastian Tandazo, 6-3, (ret.), in the No. 5 match.
The Blue Demons (14-9, 2-1 BIG EAST) took the No. 6 singles match by default. Florida Gulf Coast falls to 10-10 with the loss.
DePaul enters the BIG EAST Championships on Friday with a first-round match against Marquette. The No. 5 seeded Blue Demons face the No. 4 seeded Golden Eagles at 11 a.m. (CST) on the USF Courts in Tampa, Florida.
