Men's Tennis Challenges Marquette and Illinois State

CHICAGO The DePaul men’s tennis team hits the road this weekend to challenge BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette and intrastate opponent Illinois State. The Blue Demons face the Golden Eagles on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before they take on the Redbirds on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Normal, Illinois.
DePaul (12-8, 2-0 BIG EAST) enters the weekend having won four of its last six duals. Last week saw the Blue Demons post a 5-2 neutral-court victory over UC Davis before suffering a 6-1 road loss to then No. 52 Fresno State.
Junior Jose Moncada carries 13 singles victories during the dual season with a 6-1 record in the No. 1 slot. Sophomore Alasdair Graetz holds 11 singles wins with a 4-0 slate in the No. 2 match, while freshman Ben Hartman is 17-3 in spring singles competition. Junior Austin Doerner boasts a 7-2 record in the No. 1 doubles match when paired with Graetz.
Marquette (11-6, 2-1 BIG EAST) comes off a 6-1 road victory over Santa Clara, while Illinois State (9-4) has defeated three consecutive opponents.
Last season saw the Blue Demons split its two meetings with the Golden Eagles. DePaul topped Marquette, 4-3, on February 10, 2007 before the Golden Eagles defeated the Blue Demons, 4-3, at the BIG EAST Championships on April 22, 2007. DePaul knocked off Illinois State, 5-2, on February 17, 2007.
