First Stop: Wildcat Fall Invitational

CHICAGO The DePaul men’s tennis team opens its fall campaign this weekend at the Wildcat Fall Invitational in Evanston, Illinois. The three-day tournament, hosted by regional rival Northwestern, runs Friday through Sunday at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
In addition to DePaul and Northwestern, the bracket-style tournament features squads from Bradley, Illinois State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Toledo, and Western Michigan. The Blue Demons open their singles play Friday at 11 a.m. Doubles matches begin at 2:30 p.m.
Matt Brothers enters his second season as DePaul’s head coach. His 2007-08 squad boasted a 16-10 overall record, while upsetting out No. 38 Louisville to place third in the BIG EAST Conference tournament. All-Tournament honors were given to Jose Moncada and Alasdair Graetz.
The 2008-09 team returns seven players from last year’s lineup including seniors Austin Doerner and Moncada, juniors Graetz and Vanja Grgec, and sophomores Tim Cadet, Ben Hartman, and Bartosz Jozwiak. Joining the Blue Demons are newcomers Juan Xavier Munoz and Andrew Lauer.
The Wildcat Invitational marks the first of four fall tournaments DePaul has scheduled before beginning their dual season after the New Year.
