CHICAGO Following a pair of third place finishes at last week’s home opener, the DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams head to New York Saturday for the Fordham Fiasco. Held in the Bronx’s Van Cortlandt Park, the meet features a 5K women’s race at 9:30 a.m. (CST) followed by an 8K men’s trek slated for 10 a.m.
The Blue Demons enter a field of competition featuring 19 teams in each race, including squads from BIG EAST Conference rivals Pittsburgh and Rutgers.
After pacing the women at DePaul Opener, Terah Cheatham looks to lead Blue Demon runners Kim Boisvert, Stephanie Hughes, Erin Lakie, Claire O'Brien, Kelly Pickering, and Mary Cate Quiett. The octet all finished in the top 30 the week prior.
On the men’s side, Dennis Baliga, Jakub Kolacz, Robert Morgan, Luke Rygh, Ryan Solomon, and Greg Udzielak join Matthew Graham, who led the Blue Demons with a third place finish at the DePaul Opener.
The Fordham Fiasco marks the first of two appearances DePaul makes at VanCortlandt Park this season. The teams return to the Bronx in October for the 2008 BIG EAST Championships.
Saturday also places a select squad of Blue Demons at the Ted Hedstrand Invitational at Montrose Harbor. The women’s 5K race features Lauren Bales, Kelsey Dolan, Reda Josifi, Cari Krikorian, Kirstyn McGuinness, Toni Salvatore, and Stacy Schmitz, while Brian Begalke, Christopher Gallardo, Robert Galvin, Sebastian Gosztyla, and Daniel Steinfels represent DePaul in the men’s four mile race. Competition begins at 10 a.m.
