Men's Tennis Competes at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional

CHICAGO - The DePaul men’s tennis team travels to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championship hosted by the University of Michigan, Oct. 15-19. Qualifying rounds run Thursday and Friday morning before the main singles and doubles draw begin on Friday afternoon. Championship for both the singles and doubles draw are scheduled for Monday.
Teams participating at the Regional include Cleveland State, Eastern Illinois, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Detroit-Mercy, UIC, Green Bay, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State.
Freshmen Jon Polanec and Mathias Hambach along with sophomore Matija Palinic will represent DePaul in the qualifying brackets while the rest of the roster has already qualified for the main draw. Polanec is 2-3 this season in singles play while Palinic is 5-2. Hambach has burst onto the court and has a DePaul best 6-2 record in singles play. Early this season the freshman won the Ball State Invitational C Flight Championship.
The Blue Demons have had a successful tournament season as they have combined for a 26-20 singles record and are 12-5 in doubles action.
The DePaul duo of Ben Hartman and Bartosz Jozwiak are a perfect 5-0 this season while they won the Ball State Fall Invitational A flight championship. The Blue Demon pair of Alasdair Graetz and Polanec enter the weekend with a 4-1 doubles record while Vanja Grgec and Hambach are 3-1 this season.
The Blue Demons close out the tournament portion of their schedule at the Bronco Invitational Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
