Blue Demons Drop Third Straight

SAN ANTONIO, Texas Despite dominant doubles play, the DePaul men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision against Louisiana today during its last spring break dual. The Blue Demons fall to 13-8 while the Ragin’ Cajuns improve to 10-4.
DePaul started off the dual by taking all three doubles matches to earn the first point. The No. 69-ranked tandem of Austin Doerner and Ben Hartman defeated Piotr Olechowski and Piotr Banas, 8-6, in the top match. Alasdair Graetz and Jose Moncada beat Neil Schneider and Javier Pulgar, 8-6, while Juan Munoz and Bartosz Jozwiak defeated Bradley Bristow and Arlen Domoney, 8-7.
The Blue Demons earned wins in the No. 1 and No. 5 singles spots, but were unable to capture the fourth point to clinch the team win. Doerner triumphed over Bansas, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, while Hartman also went three sets against Domoney. Hartman won the match with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Graetz took the first set from Olechowski in the No. 3 match, 6-2, but lost sets two and three. Jozwiak forced his match to go to three sets, after winning the second 7-5, but was unable to keep the momentum going in his direction, and fell in the third and final set.
Moncada fell to Pulgar, 6-3, 6-2, while Munoz lost to Yanick Mandl, 6-1, 6-1.
This was the fourth and final match during DePaul’s week long trip to San Antonio. The return to the court on April 11, when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to face UAB at 2 p.m. (CST)
