LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. - DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell and the DePaul athletics department concluded the 2010 Coaches' Caravan at the Cubby Bear in Lincolnshire on Friday night. As the caravan winds down, activity surrounding the start the season is starting to heat up.
Each of the five stops on the Coaches' Caravan provided fans a chance to meet Purnell and coaches from other programs at DePaul. The Chicagoland tour started on Aug. 23 in Lombard before moving on to Chicago's River North neighborhood, Arlington Heights, Merrionette Park and concluding on Oct. 1 in Lincolnshire.
In Lincolnshire, Purnell previewed the upcoming season and how he will implement the pressing defensive style that only few teams in the country play at a high level. In addition to the pressure defense that is a trademark of Purnell-coached teams, he assured the crowd that DePaul's pressure offense will bring excitement back to Allstate Arena.
In less than two weeks, fans will have a chance to get two early looks at the Purnell and the Blue Demons with Blue Madness officially kicking off the 2010-11 season on Friday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. The next day on Oct. 16, an open practice is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. featuring both the men's and women's teams for fans, students and their families to get a glimpse of the full-court style of play. Both events take place at McGrath Arena.
