Blue Demons Finish BIG EAST Championships

JAMESVILLE, N.Y. - In muddy and wet conditions, the DePaul men's cross country team claimed ninth place at the 2010 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships, while the women's team finished in 12th. Matthew Graham led the men's squad and finished in 3rd with a time of 25:08.1 and Toni Salvatore led the women's team with a 41st place finish in a time of 22:37.7
In a race that Head Cross Country Coach Pat Savage called a "true cross country test", DePaul's Matthew Graham finished higher than any other runner in DePaul history. Graham's third place finish has earned him a spot on the All-BIG EAST team, the second time in his career.
Ed McDaniel was the second DePaul runner to finish. McDaniel finished in a time of 27:52, Brian Begalke finished with a time of 27:59.5, Max Rodrigues finished in a time of 28:19.8, Ian Sanchez finished with a time of 28:22.2, Max Clink finished with a time of 28:27.0 Chris Miedema finished with a time of 28:38.7, Luke Rygh finished with a time of 29:34.7 and Dennis Baliga finished in a time of 29:34.7.
Toni Salvatore improved on last year's BIG EAST Championship time of 23:30 and was the top DePaul finisher for the fifth time this season.
Fallowing Salvatore was Kelly Pickering. Pickering finished in a time of 23:42.4, Claire O'Brien finished with a time of 23:46.7, Mary Cate Quiett finished with a time of24:04.7, Stephanie Hughes finished in a time of 24:07.7, Erin Lakie finished in a time of 25:21.6 and Courtney Avvampato finished in 25:42.3.
The Villanova women won the BIG EAST cross country title, while the Syracuse men won their second straight at the 2010 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships.
The DePaul men's and women's cross country team continues post-season action at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 13 in Peoria, Ill.
