MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The DePaul men's tennis team gave No. 34 Minnesota everything it had, but fell short, 5-2 on Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers (3-3) won the doubles point but not without a fight from the Blue Demons. After Minnesota took the match on the third court, the first two courts needed a tiebreak to decide the doubles point.
DePaul's George Chanturia and Filip Dzanko used everything in their arsenal on the No. 50 pair of Rok Bonin and Julian Dehn but fell 9-8 (2) on the top court. The Blue Demon pair of Mathias Hambach and Sven Kasper also battled, but fell 9-8 (5) on the second court.
Heading into singles, the Gophers won matches on the sixth, fourth and third courts to secure the dual win.
With the match already decided, Matija Palinic and Dzanko continued to battle for bragging rights on their respective courts.
Dzanko won his 11th straight singles match when he topped Phillip Arndt 6-7 (5), 6-2, 1-0 (5). Dzanko has been perfect in duals, while he is 6-0 in the top singles spot.
Palinic also won his match, in three sets. The Blue Demon senior topped Mathieu Froment 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (2) in the fifth position.
The Blue Demons (7-4) return to the courts on Feb. 19 for a neutral-court meeting with New Mexico at 10 a.m. in Evanston, Ill.
