CHICAGO - The NCAA released the latest Academic Progress Rate report with five DePaul programs posting multi-year rates of 1000. Women's basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s soccer and women's tennis each recorded perfect rates while all 12 of 15 programs at DePaul surpassed the NCAA overall APR of 973.
The women’s tennis program posted a perfect rate for the seventh straight year while men’s golf achieved the perfect score of 1000 for the sixth time in seven years. Women’s basketball held a 1000 APR for the second consecutive year and third time in seven years and women’s soccer and women’s cross country each had a perfect score for the first time.
Men’s soccer and men’s tennis both set new high scores with the men’s soccer team at 997 and men’s tennis at 985. Four other programs posted improvements from last year’s four-year APR. That group included men’s cross country (956), women’s indoor track and field (981), women’s outdoor track and field (981), and volleyball (983).
Softball posted a four-year score of 997 that marked the seventh straight year of at least 997 for the Blue Demons. Men’s basketball registered a mark of 984 followed by men’s outdoor track and field (962) and men’s indoor track and field (953).
Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year, based on the eligibility and retention of each scholarship student-athlete. Teams scoring below certain thresholds can face sanctions, such as scholarship losses and restrictions on practice. Rates are based on the past four years’ performance. The most recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on the scores from the 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years.
Last week, an all-time high seven DePaul programs were recognized by the NCAA with the Public Recognition Award for posting multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of each sport.
