EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The DePaul cross country teams logged a solid day on Saturday morning at the John Flamer Invitational, hosted by Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
The women placed first among NCAA Division I schools and third overall, while the men took second among D-I schools and fifth overall.
"Our women's 1-5 split was 29 seconds and what we have been working toward all season," said assistant coach Leah Bohr. "We expect that to be a big factor in us doing well the last three meets of the season. Their performance sets us up to do good things the rest of October and into November."
Paige Skorseth crossed the finish line in 23:02.81 (seventh place overall) to lead DePaul in the women's 6K. Following Skorseth were Jessica Sanborn (23:12.38) in 10th, Courtney Tedeschi (23:23.89) in 15th and Jackie Kasal (23:28.80) in 16th.
On the men's side, Eddie McDaniel (25:43.25) led the DePaul charge with a seventh place finish in the 8K, while Chris Korabik (26:38.00) placed 25th and Jake Pecorin (26:45.15) took 29th.
"The men were missing Alex Campanella today and his presence was greatly missed," Bohr said. "But Eddie ran well and two freshmen, Jake and Chris, really stepped up for the team. It was a tough, hilly and rolling course but we worked well as a team."
DePaul is off next weekend but will continue its season on Oct. 17 at the Bradley Classic.
