CHICAGO - DePaul has enhanced its nationally ranked women's basketball program with the announcement that one of the top recruits in the state and the Midwest has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Blue Demons.
Whitney Young's 5-foot, 11-inch Tanita Allen, who helped lead the Dolphins to the Class 4A state championship last season, will join coach Doug Bruno's illustrious program for the 2015-16 season.
Allen will team up with another former Young standout, junior point guard Chanise Jenkins. Last season, Allen averaged 12 points and seven rebounds.
"Tanita Allen is a great get for our program," Bruno said "She brings versatility, toughness, athleticism, and scoring ability to our women's basketball team."
"She also comes from Whitney Young High School and the Mac Irvin Lady Fire Programs where she has learned how to win. Whitney Young Coach Corry Irvin does a tremendous job with her team and has perennially put the Dolphins in position to be one of the best high school programs in the entire country."
Allen was ranked No. 22 in the nation at her position by ESPNW. She was the No. 4 player on the Carolina Scouting Report's Top 100 in the Class of 2015. Allen was also named to the Full Court website's 2015 Fresh 50 Watch List.
"Tanita will definitely make a big-time impact on our program as we head into the 2015-16 season," Bruno said. "Associate head coach Jill Pizzotti together with assistant coaches Candis Blankson and Bart Brooks as well as our current Blue Demon team all did a great job in securing Tanita Allen for DePaul."
