SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Senior Eddie McDaniel crossed the finish line in 25:35.62 to pace the DePaul cross country teams and place 14th at the National Catholic Championships on Friday afternoon in South Bend, Ind.
The event, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, marked DePaul's third event of the year.
"We had great weather and good energy going into this meet. The men, led by Eddie McDaniel, took another step toward competing like the team they can be," said head coach Dave Dopek. "We certainly didn't finish where we wanted but we are certainly moving farther along in the process."
Chris Korabik (26:15.15) placed 37th and Jeremy Lozano (26:24.94) took 42nd for the Blue Demons, who took eighth out of 11 NCAA Division I teams.
"The men must continue to get competitively tougher as the season continues," Dopek said.
On the women's side, Paige Skorseth (18:51.82) took 30th, Courtney Tedeschi (19:05.78) placed 44th and Ellen Carman (19:18.04) crossed the finish line in 53rd place.
The DePaul women finished ninth out of 11 teams.
"The women still have work to do," Dopek said. "Our team's competitve nature was not on display this weekend. There were a few bright spots, however. Paige continued to lead our ladies across the finish line like she has all season. Courtney had a solid day in her second race back. Individual performances are fine but we must learn to race as a team."
The DePaul cross country teams next race on Oct. 4 at the Greater Louisville Classic.
