CHICAGO -- One week after seeing its 2014 season-opening meet cancelled due to inclement weather, the DePaul men's and women's cross country teams will begin the year Friday evening at the Badger Opener in Madison, Wis.
The race will be held at the Zimmer Course and is scheduled for 5 p.m.
The Blue Demons will send 21 student-athletes to the event, 10 on the women's side and 11 for the men. Senior Eddie McDaniel will lead the charge for the DePaul men; he is the lone senior on the 2014 squad. Joining McDaniel will be the team's only junior, Andrew Diehn, and five sophomores, including Scott Arsenault, Steve McEvilly, Joe Atria, Alex Campanella and Regen Hatcher. Rounding out the Blue Demon 11 are a quartet of freshmen, featuring Jeremy Lozano, Jake Pecorin, Chris Korabik and James Ryan.
On the women's side, DePaul's senior duo of Taylor Hynes and Jackie Kasal will lead their squad into Madison, while Molly Shiroishi, the only junior runner, will be in action as well. Jessica Sanborn, Elizabeth Wasserman, Lauren Sharp, Paige Skorseth and Courtney Tedeschi are DePaul's five sophomores who will participate in the Badger Opener, and rounding out the women's team are freshmen Katerina Cirone and Ellen Carman, who will be making their collegiate debuts.
The Badger Opener is the first of three meets for the Blue Demons in September. Full coverage of the meet will be available at www.DePaulBlueDemons.com following the race.
