MADISON, Wis. -- The DePaul cross country teams kicked off their 2014 seasons at the Badger Opener on Friday evening in Madison, Wis.
The meet came just one week after the NIU Huskie Open, which was scheduled to be the original season opener, was washed out due to inclement weather.
Eddie McDaniel and Paige Skorseth led the way for the Blue Demons on their respective sides, finishing in 18th and 43rd overall.
"It was a good start to our season," said head coach Dave Dopek. "We have a lot of work to do to learn how to compete more effectively. It is time to get back to work.
"It was great for the men to get Eddie back because it was his first race in nearly two years. We look forward to Eddie to continue to provide great leadership. Paige also ran very well today; it was a great start to her sophomore campaign."
As a team, the Blue Demons took fifth on the men's side, while the women placed sixth.
After McDaniel's time of 18:53, Alex Campanella crossed the finish line in 19:15 to place 32nd and rookie Chris Korabik took 42nd with a time of 19:36.
Skorseth's 15:21 led the Blue Demons on the women's side and Jackie Kasal (15:29) took 50th. Elizabeth Wasserman logged a time of 15:58 to finish 62nd.
"The team is in a very good position to develop and do quite well when it matters," said assistant coach Leah Bohr.
The Blue Demons will run again next week (Sept. 12) at the Illinois State Invitational.
