Blue Demons Set To Run at SIUE John Flamer Invitational

CHICAGO - After taking the past weekend off from competition, the DePaul cross country men's and women's teams travel to Edwardsville, Ill. for the SIUE John Flamer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3. The men's race is scheduled at 10 a.m. CT and begins before of the women's race, set for 10:45 a.m. CT, for the first time this season for the Blue Demons.
The women take a full roster to Edwardsville, Ill. this weekend. Paige Skorseth has been the top runner for the Blue Demons this year with three top team finishes in three races. Courtney Tedeschi competes in her third race of the year and saw an improved time and team finish at the National Catholic Championships two weeks ago. Tedeschi crossed the line in 38th at 18:40.8, almost 20 seconds faster than her first race this season.
Other representatives for the women's team this weekend include Katerina Cirone (two runner-up team finishes this year), Jessica Sanborn (second DePaul finisher in last year's John Flamer Invitational) and Christine Mujica (three straight top-five finishes in 2015).
For the men, Daniel Peterson leads the Blue Demons into Edwardsville, Ill. Peterson has three top-three team finishes this year and was the top finisher in the first race of the year. Jake Pecorin opened his season at the National Catholic Championships and completed the course with a time of 27:11.4, fourth among DePaul runners.
Jeremy Lozano joins the Blue Demons this weekend after earning two top-four team finishes this year. Steve McEvilly (27:46.0 at the National Catholic Championships) and Regen Hatcher (27:55.2 two weeks ago) solidify a top-five for DePaul at this weekend's race.
At last year's SIUE John Flamer Invitational, the women earned a season-best top-three team finish with 65 points. Skorseth and Sanborn both recorded top-10 finishes. Skorseth placed seventh with a time of 23:02.81 and Sanborn was right behind in 10th at 23:12.38. Tedeschi rounded out the top trio for the Blue Demons in 15th, across the line at 23:23.89.
In 2014, the men's team tied a season-best team finish in fifth place. Many returning runners had success at the race last year. Pecorin placed 29th with a time of 26:45.15. Lozano followed less than 30 seconds later in 43rd at 27:13.60.
