CHICAGO - All the regular season preparation for the DePaul men's and women's cross country teams leads into the BIG EAST Championships in Mason, Ohio on Saturday, October 31. The men's 8k race is first on Saturday with a 10 a.m. CT start, while the women follow at 10:50 a.m. CT.
Chris Korabik finished as the top Blue Demon men's runner in three meets this year. In his latest race, Korabik recorded a time of 24:59.8 at the Bradley Classic on October 16. Alex Campanella gives the Blue Demons a solid number two runner, besting his top 8k time in 2015 by over a minute in his last race.
"The men have a pretty specific game plan and just need to execute," said assistant coach Leah Bohr. "Chris and Alex are ready to go for Saturday."
Freshman Daniel Peterson competes in his first BIG EAST Championship on Saturday. The freshman has one top team finish and has never finished lower than third on the team this season. Peterson placed 20th at 26:12.3 in his last race at the John Flamer Invitational.
"There is definitely some room for the men to move up," stated Bohr. "I know they are excited about beating a few of these teams we have been gunning for all season."
Jake Pecorin and Jeremy Lozano round out DePaul's top-five. Pecorin was the top finisher among Blue Demon runners at the John Flamer Invitational, while Lozano took second. Lozano grabbed a third-place finish in his last race at the Bradley Classic with a time of 25:47.4.
Paige Skorseth and Courtney Tedeschi have led DePaul throughout the 2015 season. Skorseth has three team-best finishes this year, while Tedeschi has earned the top team finishes at the past two races. At the John Flamer Invitational, Tedeschi finished in first place with a time of 22:07.4.
"Paige and Courtney are dead set on leading these ladies through a tough field and coming out strong," said Bohr. "The women have a really strong pack right now. They feel good about what they are doing as a team and are highly aware of their potential at this meet."
Katerina Cirone reached a season-best 6k time of 22:15.4 at the Bradley Classic. Cirone finished no lower than fourth on the team and enjoyed two second-place team finishes at the Badger Season Opener and ISU Country Financial Invitational.
Christine Mujica has made an impact for DePaul in her first year on the team. Mujica placed in the top-five for the team in each of the five races this year, earning her best team finish at the Bradley Classic when she was the third Blue Demon across the line at 22:14.7.
"The women's team has grown a tremendous amount these last 2-3 years," said Bohr. "Even with a fairly young group, they have high hopes and expectations."
